The Danish warmblood is bred for performance; a rigorous and stringent breeding programme is followed to ensure only the best horses are bred from, to develop a top class horse of an international standard. The Danish warmblood horse especially excels at dressage.
There is also an intensive breeding program that is dedicated to the improvement of the showjumping horse, to create a horse that has enhanced jumping capabilities; these horses have a jumping mark on their pedigree, the jumping mark shows the horse has a very high-status ShowJumping pedigree.
Characteristics
The Danish Warmblood characteristics vary depending on the individual horses parentage.The Danish warmblood is a very noble looking horse, usually standing between 15 and 17 hands, Danish warmblood horses have strong muscular bodies and lengthy legs and free movement, the best Danish warmblood horses should have a Thoroughbred outline.The Danish warmblood horse can be any solid colour but are usually bay, black, chestnut or brown. The progeny of approved graded parents will carry the brand depicting a crown over a wave.
History
The Danish Warmblood breed began using one of the oldest indigenous Danish horse breeds, the Frederiksborg, as a foundation. The foundation mares were bred with warmblood horses from ajacent countries, only the finest horses with superior ancestry were used to create a superior riding horse.
The Danish warmblood registry, as we know it today was formed in 1978, this was due to the amalgamation of the Danish Sport Horse Society and the Danish Light horse Association.
